Tapas are a good reason to eat in España
And so one story goes:
In Roman times, it was the custom in Spain to serve a glass of wine with a little slice
of bread on top to keep the flies out…………which was later eaten. The word Tapa
literally means Top. And so after a while, smart merchants started serving other little
snacks with the wine to attract more business. At first, a few olives or almonds and
later tidbits of cheese or fish and such.  Eventually this evolved into what are the
present day
Tapa Bars. You still get the tidbits free with each glass but you can
order extras or larger portions called
